People in Places
Wednesday 29 May 2024 | Venue: ActOne Cinema | Time: 2pm – 3.30pm | Cost: £10 | Capacity: 15 guests | Age: 16+
‘People in Places’ is a fiction writing workshop which focuses on creating unique and engaging characters and developing the worlds which they inhabit.
We will begin with some playful approaches to getting started and getting unstuck.
We’ll work from picture, sound and object stimuli to develop a character study and explore the impact of the physical environment on the human body.
We’ll also look at some fun ways to construct dialogue and develop character voice.
Finally, we’ll experiment with tense and perspective to bring the characters’ worlds to life.
The exercises are great for writers of all genres, particularly fiction writers, playwrights and screenwriters.
Writing Ability: The workshop is suitable for all people with a reading age of about 12+, who have a keen interest in developing their own creative writing skills. Participants who struggle to write by hand may wish to bring someone to scribe for them, use a laptop or tablet, or use a dictation device.
This workshop will be led by Lydia Frater.
